LA Queenciañera

Documentary | Spain | 2021 | 84 min | English, Spanish

Synopsis

Bamby Salcedo turns 50. For most people, a 50th birthday is a time for reflection, but for Bamby it is a time to celebrate. She is a true survivor, a transgender immigrant, HIV positive, undocumented, victim of sexual assault, a recovering addict. Despite living many years as a sex worker and spending a lot of time on the streets, she has become one of the most recognized trans activists in Southern California. LA Queenciañera is an adaptation of the traditional ritual of la quinceañera, in which the father of a 15-year-old girl "presents" her to society as a woman.
