The Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) was selected through an open call to receive the PROFEST 2026 Support for Cultural and Artistic Festivals grant, awarded by the Mexican Ministry of Culture through the General Directorate of Cultural Circuits and Festivals.
This support will enable the Guadalajara International Film Festival, now in its 41st edition, to continue its commitment to offering free, publicly accessible activities that connect the local community and audiences across the country with films from Mexico and around the world.
PROFEST’s support will help strengthen the FICG’s programming and outreach efforts, facilitating access to film content that enriches audiovisual culture and promotes the participation of diverse audiences, in line with the cultural democratization goals promoted by the Mexican Government’s Ministry of Culture.
PROFEST is an initiative focused on enriching the country’s cultural offerings and ensuring that the population—including vulnerable groups (older adults, indigenous peoples, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, among others)—has access to diverse artistic expressions by supporting festivals whose programming centers on the performing arts, visual arts, film, design, food culture, and literature.
In addition, the festivals that host PROFEST contribute to the National Circuit of Festivals for Peace, which seeks to strengthen the social fabric and reclaim public spaces by providing free access to various activities in its program, including performances by national talent.
The Guadalajara International Film Festival is one of the most important film events in Latin America and a key platform for the promotion, exhibition, and dissemination of Mexican and Ibero-American cinema. Throughout its history, it has established itself as a meeting place for university students, filmmakers, industry professionals, and the general public, fostering cultural dialogue and the development of the audiovisual sector.
With this support, the FICG reaffirms its commitment to continuing to bring film to more people, strengthening its role as a key platform for contributing to the creation and visibility of Mexican cinema.
