Água nas guelras

Water in the gills
Documentary | Portugal | 2021 | 25 min | Portuguese

Synopsis

In 1996, a 12-year-old boy moved from a large German city to Faial, a small island lost in the Atlantic Ocean. Here the sea marks the rhythm of the days, nature lives in the depths of each inhabitant, time runs as if suspended. Franz holds his breath in apnea as he dives deeper. Immersed in the blue, his inner time dilates and his soul marvels. This ritual leads him to find a deep connection with the island and, once grown, to the decision to stay and live a life of ancestral simplicity. He discovered himself in this piece of foreign land. Home is in these depths.
