ALTERNATIVA ARRIVES IN LATIN AMERICA; PRESENTED AT GUADALAJARA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The 40th edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) became the stage for the presentation to Latin America of the Alternativa Film Festival, which will consolidate a strategic alliance that seeks to strengthen the links between film and social change.

Alternativa Film Festival is a global non-profit initiative that supports and promotes filmmakers from the global south whose work has the potential to bring positive change to the world. The traveling platform recognizes emerging filmmaking talent, celebrating both artistic merit and the social reality and change sought by participating films, while helping to create meaningful cross-regional connections.

After launching in Central Asia in 2023 and expanding to Southeast Asia in 2024, Alternativa now officially enters Latin America, making its first official presentation in the region at FICG40, before holding its 2026 edition in Colombia.

The new edition will focus on - but not be limited to - free screenings of films selected for competition. These will be accompanied by public activities designed to deepen their impact and engage in dialogue with the public.

The festival will also feature the professional Industry Days program, which connects filmmakers, producers and social impact leaders, fostering thought-provoking conversations and new collaborations.

Directors whose films are selected for competition will be invited to attend the festival, and the organizers will cover their travel and accommodation expenses. Alternativa also offers both monetary and symbolic prizes.

The call for entries for the new edition will be open from June 10; the deadline for receipt of projects is August 1, 2025. To learn more about the festival and its offerings, please visit the alternativa.film website.
