Convocatoria 39 edición

The Guadalajara Film Festival (FICG) calls for producers and filmmakers from Mexico, Ibero-America, and other regions of the world to submit their films to the 38th edition of the festival, which will be held from June 7th to 15th, 2024.

OFFICIAL COMPETITION

FEATURE FILMS: For the official sections in the competition, only films finalized in 2023-2024 and with a minimum length of 60 minutes, will be considered.

 

  • The call for entries for feature film opens on November 6th 2023, and closes on February 16th, at 18:00 hrs. -(Central Mexico’s time -6GMT) 

 

  • The submissions for feature films are free of charge from November 6th to 24th, 2023; after these dates the cost of the submissions is $200.00 Mexican Pesos.

MEZCAL AWARD

Mexican fiction and documentary feature films that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 39 will be considered for the call for entries.
The awards are:

 

  • Mezcal Award to the Best Mexican Film: Mayahuel statuette and $500,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the majoritarian producing company.
  • ·Audience Award: Mayahuel statuette and $100,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the director
  • Best Direction: Mayahuel Statuette.
  • Best Cinematography: Mayahuel statuette.
  • Best Performance: Mayahuel statuette.

IBERO-AMERICAN FICTION FEATURE FILM

bero-American fiction feature films that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 39 will be considered for the call for entries.
The awards are:

 

  • Best Ibero-American Fiction Feature Film: Mayahuel statuette and 500,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the majoritarian producing company.
  • Best First Film: Mayahuel statuette.
  • Best Direction: Mayahuel Statuette.
  • Best Screenplay: Mayahuel statuette. 
  • Best Cinematography: Mayahuel statuette.
  • Best Performance: Mayahuel statuette.

IBERO-AMERICAN DOCUMENTARY FEATURE FILM

will be considered feature-length documentaries from Latin America, Spain and PortugalThe prizes are as follows:

 

  • Best Ibero-American Documentary: Mayahuel Statue and $200,000.00 Mexican pesos awarded to the majority production company.
  • Best Direction: Mayahuel Statuette.
  • Best Photography: Mayahuel Statuette.

**The Ibero-American Documentary Feature section is recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the USA, therefore the feature film winner can be considered for Oscar nominations.**

MAGUEY AWARD

International fiction and documentary feature films addressing queer issues related to the LGBTQ+ community that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 39 will be considered for the call for entries. Films from the Mezcal Award, Ibero-American Fiction Feature Film, Ibero-American Documentary Feature Film, and International Animation Feature Film can be considered for this section.

 

Films from the Mezcal Award, Ibero-American Fiction Feature Film, Ibero-American Documentary Feature Film and International Animated Feature Film sections may be considered. The prize is as follows: ㅤ

 

  • Maguey Jury Award: EMME statuette.
  • Maguey Jury Prize: EMME Statuette.
  • Maguey Award Best Performance: EMME statuette.

INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FEATURE FILM

International Animation feature films that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 39 will be considered for the call for entries.
The award is:

 

  • Best Animation Feature Film: Chucho statuette and $500,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the majoritarian producing company.

MADE IN JALISCO

Mexican fiction and documentary feature films made in Jalisco or by filmmakers from Jalisco that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 39 will be considered for the call for entries.

  • Best Jalisco Film:
  • Mayahuel statuette.

SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL FILM AWARD

International documentary and fiction feature films addressing issues exploring the complex relations that transform nature, which are related to processes of justice, human rights and urbanization that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 39 will be considered for the call for entries.

 

  • The call for short films opens on November 6, 2023 and closes on January 31, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. (Central Mexico time -6 GMT). ㅤ
  • Short film registrations to the FICG will be free from November 6 to 24, 2023; At the end of this period they will have a registration cost of $100.00 MXN (One Hundred Mexican Pesos).

SHORT FILM

Short films finalized between 2023-2024 that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 39 and with a max length of 30 minutes, credits included, will be considered for the call for entries.

 

  • Best Ibero-American Short Film: Mayahuel Statue and $75,000.00 Mexican pesos awarded to the director.

RIGO MORA AWARD

International animation short films of any technique that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 39 will be considered for the call for entries. The maximum length to participate is 30 minutes, credit roll included. The award is:

 

  • · Best Animated Short Film: Chucho statuette and $200,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the director.

The Ibero-American Documentary Feature Film section is recognized by the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of the United States, so the winning documentary may be considered for the Oscar nomination.

MADE IN JALISCO

Podrán participar fiction or documentary short films made in Jalisco, or by a Jalisco directorThe prize is the following:

 

  • Best Jalisco Short Film: Mayahuel Statuette.

EXHIBITION

  • All the selected films for FICG 39 must deliver a final copy of exhibition on DCP and Blu Ray. For the competitive sections, the films in Spanish must be subtitled in English; the films in different languages must count with English and Spanish subtitles.
  • Films selected for official competition must cover costs for KDM, shipping and subtitling. ㅤ
  • FICG DOES NOT PAY SCREENING FEES TO FILMS IN COMPETITION SUBMISSION AND SELECTION

INSCRIPCIÓN Y SELECCIÓN

To be considered, films must be entered in the following way

 

  1. Fill out the online registration form available on the page: https://vp.eventival.com/ficg/2024.
  2. Send through the registration form a link with the final cut or, failing that, an advanced work cut for online viewing. This link must be private and password protected. Physical copies (DVD/Blu-ray) or download links are not accepted and will not be reviewed. ㅤ
  3. Read and accept the conditions of participation stipulated in this call and in its regulations available at www.ficg.mx
  4. The presence of the filmmakers is mandatory in the cases of fiction, documentary and animation films in competition. The absence of the director may be cause for the feature film to be withdrawn from the official selection.
  5. All selected films agree to send a viewing link of the final cut of the film to programacion@ficg.mx once selected.
  6. The selected works may be part of national and international exhibitions in which the FICG participates during 202
  7. Registration for FICG39 will be free from November 6 to 24, 2023, at the end of this period they will have the following costs:  Feature films, $200.00 MXN (two hundred Mexican pesos).  short films, $100.00 MXN (cien pesos mexicanos).
  8. All materials will be evaluated by a selection committee made up of specialists, academics, filmmakers and animators, chaired by the Programming Directorate and the General Directorate of the FICG.
  9. The results will be announced in April 2024 through www.ficg.mx
  10. The results obtained derived from the object of these calls, as well as the publications and everything that results from participation, will be freely used by the Board of Trustees of the Guadalajara International Film Festival, A.C. University of Guadalajara.

 

  • The FICG reserves the right to make modifications to these regulations, and other issues related to the calls. ㅤ

FAQ

Fiction and documentary feature film projects in the development stage that have a finished script or in progress, with at least twenty percent of financing secured and a minimum duration of 70 minutes.

 

The feature films must have been made in Latin America or, they can be a co-production with other countries in the region, as long as the participation of the person requesting support is greater than fifty percent.
