FICG 40 CALL FOR ENTRIES

The Guadalajara Film Festival (FICG) calls for producers and filmmakers from Mexico, Ibero-America, and other regions of the world to submit their films to the 40th edition of the festival, which will be held from June 6th to 14th, 2024.

OFFICIAL COMPETITION

FEATURE FILMS

For the official sections in the competition, only films finalised in 2024-2025 and with a minimum length of 60 minutes, will be considered.

 

The call for entries for feature film opens on November 4th 2024, and closes on February 14th,2025 at 18:00 -(Central Mexico’s time -6GMT).

 

The submissions for feature films are free of charge from November 4th to 22th, 2024; after these dates the cost of the submissions is $400.00 Mexican Pesos.

 

Sections:

 

MEZCAL AWARD

 

Mexican fiction and documentary feature films that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 will be considered for the call for entries.

 

The awards are:

 

  • Mezcal Award to the best Mexican film: Mayahuel statuette and $500,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the majoritarian producing company.
  • Audience Award: Mayahuel statuette and $100,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the director.
  • Best Direction: Mayahuel statuette.
  • Best Cinematography: Mayahuel statuette.
  • Best Cinematography: Mayahuel statuette.

 

IBERO-AMERICAN FICTION FEATURE FILM

 

Ibero-American fiction feature films that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 will be considered for the call for entries.

 

The awards are:

 

  • Best Ibero-American Fiction Feature film: Mayahuel statuette and 500,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the majoritarian producing company.
  • Best First Film: Mayahuel statuette.
  • Best Direction: Mayahuel statuette.
  • Best Screenplay: Mayahuel statuette.
  • Best Cinematography: Mayahuel statuette.
  • Best Cinematography: Mayahuel statuette.

 

IBERO-AMERICAN DOCUMENTARY FEATURE FILM

 

Ibero-American documentary feature films that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 will be considered for the call for entries.

 

The awards are:

 

  • Best Ibero-American Fiction Feature film: Mayahuel Award and $200,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the majoritarian producing company.
  • Best Direction: Mayahuel statuette.
  • Best Cinematography: Mayahuel statuette.

 

**The Ibero-American Documentary Feature section is recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the USA, therefore the feature film winner can be considered for Oscar nominations.**

 

MAGUEY AWARD

 

International fiction and documentary feature films addressing Queer issues related to the LGBTQ+ community that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 will be considered for the call for entries. Films from the Mezcal Award, Ibero-American Fiction Feature Film, Ibero-American Documentary Feature Film, and International Animation feature film can be considered for this section.

 

The awards is:

 

  • Best Maguey Film: EMME statuette.
  • Maguey Jury Award: EMME statuette.
  • Maguey Award Best Performance: EMME statuette.

 

INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FEATURE FILM

 

International Animation feature films that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 will be considered for the call for entries.

 

The awards is:

 

  • Best Animation Feature Film: Chucho statuette and $500,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the majoritarian producing company.

 

MADE IN JALISCO

 

Mexican fiction and documentary feature films made in Jalisco or by filmmakers from Jalisco that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 will be considered for the call for entries.

 

The awards is:

 

  • Mayahuel statuette.

 

SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL FILM AWARD

 

International documentary and fiction feature films addressing issues exploring the complex relations that transform nature, which are related to processes of justice, human rights and urbanisation that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 will be considered for the call for entries.

 

The awards is:

 

  • Best Feature Film: Mayahuel statuette.

SHORT FILMS

Short films finalised between 2024-2025 that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 and with a max length of 30 minutes, credits included, will be considered for the call for entries.

 

The call for entries for short films opens on November 4th 2024 and closes on January 31st, 2025, at 18:00 - (Central Mexico’s time -6GMT).

 

The submissions for short films are free of charge from November 2th to 22th, 2024; after these dates the cost of the submissions is $200.00 Mexican Pesos.

 

Sections:

 

SHORT FILM

 

Ibero-American fiction and documentary short films that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 will be considered for the call for entries. The maximum length to participate is 30 minutes, credit roll included.

 

The awards is:

 

  • Best Ibero-American short film: Mayahuel statuette and $75,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the director.

 

RIGO MORA AWARD

 

International animation short films of any technique that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 will be considered for the call for entries. The maximum length to participate is 30 minutes, credit roll included.

 

The awards is:

 

  • Best Animated Short Film: Chucho statuette and $200,000 Mexican pesos, granted to the director.

 

**The Ibero-American Short films and the Rigo Mora Award, are recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the USA, therefore the short film winners can be considered for Oscar nominations.**

 

MADE IN JALISCO

 

Mexican fiction and documentary short films made in Jalisco or by filmmakers from Jalisco that have their Mexican Premiere during FICG 40 will be considered for the call for entries.

 

The awards is:

 

  • Mayahuel statuette.

EXHIBITION

All the selected films for FICG 40 must deliver a final copy of exhibition on DCP and Blu Ray.

 

For the competitive sections, the films in Spanish must be subtitled in English; the films in different languages must count with English and Spanish subtitles.

 

FICG DOES NOT PAY SCREENING FEES TO FILMS IN COMPETITION.

SUBMISSION AND SELECTION

To be considered for selection, the films must be submitted in the following manner:

 

1. Filling in the submission form available at:

https://vp.eventival.com/ficg/2025

 

2. Send within the submission form a link to the final cut of the film, or a work in progress version for the online review. This link must be a private link and also passcode protected. DVD/Blu-ray or downloading links (WeTransfer, Google Drive, etc.) will not be accepted.

 

3. To read and accept the participation conditions stipulated on this call for entries and its rules and regulations: www.ficg.mx

 

4. The presence of the filmmakers is mandatory for the fiction, documentary and animation feature films in competition. The absence of the director may be the cause of withdrawal from selection.

 

5. All the films selected must send a link to the final cut of the film to programacion@ficg.mx .

 

6. The submission for FICG 40 will be free of charge from November 4th to 22th, after those dates, the submission costs are:

 

  • Feature Films, $400.00 Mexican Pesos.
  • Short Films, $200.00 Mexican Pesos.

 

7. All the submitted films will be evaluated by a selection committee formed by specialists, academics, filmmakers and animators, presided over by the Programming Direction and the General Direction of FICG.

 

8. The results of the call entries will be announced by April, 2025 at www.ficg.mx .

 

9. The given results of the present call for entries, as well as the publications and all the resulting participation, will be freely used by the Patronato del Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara, A.C. Universidad de Guadalajara.

 

10. FICG reserves the right to modify these rules and regulations, as well as matters related to the call for entries.
