Mezcal Award

Mexican narrative and documentary feature films. The Best Mexican Film is awarded with a Mayahuel statuette and 500,000 Mexican pesos. In this section, the Audience Award is also awarded with a Mayahuel statuette and 100,000 Mexican pesos. In addition, Best Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Acting are recognized.

Ibero-American Fiction Feature Film

Ibero-American fiction feature films from Latin America, Spain and Portugal. The Best Ibero-American Narrative Film is awarded with a Mayahuel statuette and 500,000 Mexican pesos. It is recognized in addition: Best First Feature, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Acting.

Ibero-American Documentary Film

Feature-length documentaries from Latin America, Spain and Portugal. The Best Ibero-American Documentary is awarded with a statuette and 200,000 Mexican pesos. The Best Direction and Best Cinematography are also recognized. This section is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), so the winning documentary may be considered for an Oscar nomination.

Maguey Award

Narrative and documentary feature films from anywhere in the world that address topics related to the LGBTQ+ community. The Best Film is awarded the Maguey Award. In addition, it’s given a recognition to the Best Acting and the Special Jury Prize with an EMME statuette.

Made in Jalisco

Film productions, narrative and documentary feature and short films, made in Jalisco or by a Jalisco director. The Best Jalisciense Film and Best Jalisciense Short Film are recognized with a Mayahuel statuette.

Socio-environmental Cinema Award

Organized by the Museum of Environmental Sciences of the Centro Cultural Universitario and the Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara, this award includes international narrative and documentary feature films that explore the complex relationships that transform nature and are associated with processes of justice, human rights and urbanization. A Mayahuel statuette is awarded for the Best Socio-Environmental Film.

Previously the Socio-Environmental Film Showcase, the curation of this section has included winning films in the Green Film Network, the international network that brings together 32 environmental film festivals from around the world.

International Animation Feature Film

International animated feature films produced in any technique. The Best Animated Feature Film is awarded with a Mayahuel statuette and 500,000 Mexican pesos.

Ibero-American Short Film

Mexican and Latin American documentary or narrative short films. The Best Ibero-American Short Film is awarded with a Mayahuel statuette and 75,000 Mexican pesos.

This section is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), so the winning short film may be considered for an Oscar nomination.

Rigo Mora Award

Animated short films produced in any technique. The Best Animated Short Film is awarded with a Chucho statuette and 200,000 Mexican pesos.
